Cuttack: Police have imposed restrictions on the movement of heavy goods vehicles the on NH-16 between the twin cities.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is constructing a flyover at the junction of the Puri bypass near the Saptasati Temple in Bhubaneswar.

Cuttack-Bhubaneswar commissioner of police Y.B. Khurania said there was a need for diversion/regulation of heavy goods carrying vehicles moving towards Bhubaneswar through Cuttack from Chandikhole to facilitate completion of the flyover construction.

"As part of the restrictions, the heavy goods vehicles are being stopped at Manguli crossing along the road from 8am to 11am and from 5pm to 11pm," Khurania said.

"The restrictions have been clamped since May 17 and will continue till July 5," he said.

The police chief also added: "However, the heavy goods vehicles carrying essential commodities have been exempted from the restriction."

As part of the police's traffic plan to divert traffic, the tourist/passenger service buses coming from Puri towards Cuttack are being diverted at Lingipur crossing in Dhauli police station limits to Bhubaneswar viathe crossing at Ravi Talkies Square, Kalpana crossing and Rasulgarh crossing.

"The middle bridge over the Kuakhai river shall remain closed for the general public till July 5," the police chief said.

A press note released by the police commissioner said all the vehicles moving towards Bhubaneswar from Cuttack would be diverted to the left-side bridge on the Kuakhai river from Hanspal crossing.

These vehicles may avail Hi-Tech crossing, Puri bypass crossing, service road in front of Saptasati temple and then take the NH-16 near Palasuni bridge to proceed towards Bhubaneswar.

All the vehicles moving from Cuttack intending to go to Puri shall be diverted towards Hanspal crossing to the left-side bridge on Kuakhai river.

These vehicles may avail Hi-Tech crossing, Puri bypass crossing and then avail Puri-Nabakalebara Road to proceed towards Puri.

The vehicles intending to come to Cuttack from Puri on the Puri-Nabakalebara Road shall avail of the road under the flyover at Puri bypass crossing and then take a right to the NH-16 to take the Cuttack-Bhubaneswar Road, the press note released by the police said.
