Cuttack, July 26: The municipal corporation has decided to carry out repairs on the potholed roads at the Cuttack Development Authority (CDA) satellite township soon.

“A Rs 5.93 crore project has been chalked out to carry out repair and construction of concrete roads at CDA,” said commissioner of the civic body Nihar Ranjan Mohapatra.

He said the roads and buildings division of the public works department (PWD) would carry out the project and tenders had been invited for the purpose. Work was expected to begin shortly after the monsoon.

However, PWD officials have been asked to immediately undertake minor repairs of major roads that are inconveniencing people.

Corporation sources said work on the 2.5km stretch from JPM eye hospital to CDA-6 market complex will be undertaken in the first phase. This road, which acts as a lifeline for people of the satellite town ship, is in a deplorable condition.

“Most of the roads in CDA are in bad shape owing to lack of repairs over the past few years. The problem is more acute during the rainy season and it becomes difficult to drive on them,” said Dilip Prusty, a resident of Sector-7.

Prusty said the civic body had been making promises on repairing the roads and bettering other facilities but nothing had been done so far. “CDA roads and bylanes are ridden with potholes and there is waterlogging because of overflowing of underground sewers,” Ramkishan Sharma, a resident of CDA Sector-6.

The municipal corporation had earlier drawn flak for turning a blind eye towards the lack of various civic amenities and problems at CDA.

The residents had also demonstrated and blocked roads twice at CDA in August last year. Local residents allege that despite repeated agitations, the civic body had not taken carried out measures for the all-round development of existing infrastructure here.
