Bhubaneswar, March 10: A documentary film on organ donation made by Snehasis Das was screened here for youngsters to observe the World Kidney Day.
The 35-minute film, Spandan, aims to create awareness among people on how donation of vital organs of the body, such as the kidneys, the liver, the heart and the lungs, saves lives of thousands of people with organ dysfunction.
"The most common organs donated by people are cornea and liver, while heart and kidneys are the least donated organs. Very few people come forward to donate their organs for medical research. Even if some people want to donate their organs, often they do not know how to register themselves for organ donationDas has made a number of documentaries and films on various social issues and many of his films have been selected for various international and national film festivals.
Recently, his works Catch Me If You Can and A for Apple were screened at the Golden Sun Short Film Festival held in Malta. The films dealt with issues of child labour and water conservation respectively.
Presently, he is working on a film that highlights the age-old practice of growing millets in the rural parts of Odisha and how the tradition is gradually diminishing.
