Bhubaneswar, June 27: Art director Sukant Panigrahy felt at home while working for Ghanchakkar that releases today. For Sukant, who has worked with director Rajkumar Gupta and the same production house in No One Killed Jessica, the only difference with the Emraan Hashmi-Vidya Balan starrer was that it had more sequences shot indoors.

Sukant refuses to believe that for someone like him who has worked in films of different genres, Ghanchakkar was challenging.

“In his last film, the director had shot mostly in outdoor locations. This time his film needed to be shot primarily inside a house. He explained to me that he wanted a middle class set up. I had to create the set, as shooting in a rented house for long becomes cumbersome in Mumbai. I also had to erect a bank, as the film has three foolish characters who act smart enough to rob a bank,” said the art director.

Sukant also said that he and Rajkumar understood and appreciated each other’s style of work and they already discussed about the director’s next film.

Sukant strives to take inspiration from real life. “My representation of a brothel in Dev D had unusual lights and colours, which was very different from conventional portrayals. I simply add a little twist in the usual things,” he said.

He also said that it was his idea to prod the music video director to go for a quirky shoot of the Lazy Lad song for the promotion of the film.

Sukant is all praise for Vidya Balan, who plays an over-ambitious woman in the film.

“She adds a lot to the team. She is extremely professional and one of the finest actresses we have right now in the industry. She always has a good look at the set and adds elements that she feels can improve its appearance. She brought paintings from her house to use them in the film,” he said.

Sukant, who hails from Aska in Ganjam, believes the subtle and dark humour in Ghanchakkar will strike a chord with the masses.

He is also the publicity designer of the upcoming Arjun Rampal starrer D-Day.
