Cuttack, May 21: Ravenshaw University will host a session of the Model United Nations (MUN) from July 3. It is being organised by the UN Information Centre for India and Bhutan.
Over 400 delegates from USA, UK, Bangladesh, Trinidad and Tobago, Nigeria, Nepal and India will take part in the youth conference that is being organised for the first time in Odisha.
Vaibhav Das, general secretary of the conference, said that the MUN would have four distinctive committees - General Assembly, Human Rights Council, World Millennium Summit and UN Security Council.
Emerging global issues including the Saudi Arabia and Yemen crisis, post-2015 development goals and reviewing international maritime security will be discussed by the participants.
Besides, there will be plenary session and a grand delegate night for the participants.
"The Model United Nations has been simulated for the first time in Odisha at Ravenshaw University and we have already started preparations for the event," said Das.
Ravenshaw University officials said a special team comprising 24 students had been constituted for the smooth conduct of the event that will conclude on July 5.
Earlier, a mock session was organised to make students aware of the proceedings as well as the conference.
"The mock session was crucial in making the students aware about the global situation. A UN cell has been made functional here which, we hope, will benefit students of the university to gain knowledge," said Sanjay Satpathy, dean, students' welfare.
