Jajpur: A 32-year-old married woman was allegedly raped by a youth BJD leader at the party's block office at Dasarathpur block in the district.

The accused, Chandrakanta Mohapatra, allegedly raped the woman on the pretext of providing her a house under the Biju Pucca Ghar Yojana.

Though the incident reportedly took place on January 11 around 9pm, it came to light after the woman filed an FIR at Mangalpur police station on Monday afternoon. Based on the report, police registered a case under sections 342, 294 and 376 of the IPC against the accused.

The complainant said Chandrakanta, who is the brother of Jajpur district unit BJD president, Saroj Mohapatra, called the woman over mobile phone asking her to come to the party office at Dasarathapur to complete some formalities to get a house under the scheme on Thursday night around 8.15pm.

"When I reached there, Chandrakanta called me into the office. I went into office room where only Chandrakanta was present. Then he asked me to sit on the bed in that room. The accused touched me inappropriately and misbehaved with me at the office. As I tried to escape from the spot, he assaulted and raped me," the woman alleged in her complaint. He had also threatened her with dire consequences if she disclosed the incident to anybody, she alleged.

Mangalpur police started investigation into the incident. "We have recorded the woman's statements before the magistrate. Besides, medical examination of the woman has been conducted at district headquarters hospital on Monday," said Jajpur sub-divisional police officer Prasant Kumar Malla.

The accused fled the village soon after the filing of the FIR. No arrest has been made so far.

The Jajpur district unit BJD president said: "It is purely political. The opponents are trying to malign us by filing such fake complaints."
