Balasore, June 20: Police have arrested two persons on charges of raping, blackmailing and making obscene videos of the intimate moments of a minor girl with her boyfriend and making it public.

The accused have been identified as Kartik Behera, 24, of Nuagaon village in the Rupsa police station limits and Charan Tudu, 22, of Hatasahi village in the Rasgobindapur police station jurisdiction.

The accused were sent to jail after their bail petitions were rejected. The incident had taken place around two years ago. The crime happened within Basta police limits and the cops had, on January 22, arrested Papu Jena, 21, another accused in the case.

The victim, a 16-year-old tribal girl, was talking to her boyfriend under a rail bridge at Rautpada village in Nuagaon. The accused had forced her to get physically intimate with her boyfriend and video-recorded the moments. After that, they took turns to rape the girl. Later, the accused also made the video clips public by posting it on the social media.

After local police adopted a dilly-dallying approach in registering a case, a local lawyer brought the matter to the notice of the state crime branch and action was initiated. Basta police registered a case and began investigation.

Basta sub-divisional police officer Gobind Chandra Sethi said: "The case is around two years old. While one of the accused had been arrested in January, others were rounded up yesterday and taken to court. They have been booked under several sections of the IPC such as gang-rape, SC, ST Atrocity Act, IT Act and the Protection of Children Against Sexual Abuses Act."
