Jajpur, Oct. 2: Police arrested a youth for raping a 14-year-old girl in her house at Purunabaulamala village in the district on Monday night.

The accused, identified as Biswajit Sahu alias Jitu, 23, was forwarded to court today and later remanded in judicial custody.

In his complaint, the victim’s father said that Jitu had raped his minor daughter, who was sleeping alone in a room, on Monday night.

“When the girl was being molested, she raised an alarm and her parents, who were sleeping in a room next to her, got up. As the couple woke up, the accused fled from the room,” said Sudipto Kumar Sahu, inspector in charge of Jenapur police station.

“We arrested Jitu from the nearby village late last night. Medical examination of both the girl and Jitu was conducted at district headquarters hospital in Jajpur town,” said Sahu.
