Rourkela: Housing and urban development secretary G. Mathivathanan has held a review of all the projects undertaken within the civic body's jurisdiction, apart from the smart city ones.

The Rourkela Municipal Corporation's commissioner, who is also the Rourkela Smart City Limited's CEO, apprised him about all the projects.

"I briefed him about the smart projects such as those dealing with roads, bus terminus, auditorium, skill development centre, surveillance and security, classroom, governance, solid waste management, park development, Bisra Stadium and Biju Patnaik Indoor Stadium," said CEO Rashmita Panda.

Mathivathanan was reportedly keen about the timely progress and completion of all the projects. "He was stressing on both the quality of work and the projects' deadlines," said Panda.

Besides, Mathivathanan was also apprised about the underground sewerage system project, presently being undertaken in many parts of the city, by the sewerage board officials. "The underground sewerage system is a key project here. The secretary also visited the sewerage treatment plant No. 1, which is in advance stage of construction, and took stock of situation," said assistant executive engineer Lakhmikant Tripathy.

Over 63km of pipe lines have been laid for the project in the first phase, he said.

Moreover, Mathivathanan conducted spot verification of the water supply project being done by the Odisha Water Supply and Sewerage Board and the public health and engineering department. This will further strengthen the water supply in the city and make it more effective in managing the drinking water supply.

"We apprised him about how we are going to manage the situation given the rise in demand of water," said the public health and engineering department's executive engineer Anup Patel.

At present, some of the key areas under the smart city projects are development of parks, completion of stadiums, and multi-level car parking. "We have upgraded two parks at Civil Township and two others at other places," said Panda.
