Cuttack, March 6: Protest against the transfer of the headmaster of Urdu Secondary Training School here has intensified, with students alleging that his successor does not have expertise over the Urdu language.
This is the second time in three days that the students have staged a demonstration demanding the reinstatement of Mir Allaudin, the previous chief of the institute, who was transferred last month. They criticised the officials of the State Council of Education Research and Training for appointing Diptimayee Subhadarshini, who, they feared, might not be well versed with the language.
“The medium of instruction in our school is Urdu. The teacher, who has taken over as our new headmaster, may not know the language well. This will create problems for us,” said student Rizwana Khatun.
The training school at Saikhbazar was established in 1912 and is the only Urdu training school in the state. At present, around 50 students from various parts of the state are undergoing a two-year course in certified teacher’s training here.
Apart from this, the students were also protesting against the poor infrastructure at the school, which lacked adequate classrooms and teaching faculty. They said though there was a hostel for boys, the number of rooms was not enough. As a result, nearly 40 students were forced to put up in just two rooms.
“We will be forced to block roads and call a state-wide agitation if the authorities do not initiate any step to address our grievances at the earliest,” said Mohammad Sadiul Haq, another student.
