Protest over techie death

Villagers of Sahupada today blocked the Kalamatia-Kuakhia Road demanding compensation for Bikash Mohanty, a mechanical engineer who died while working in Sri Lanka.

Jajpur, May 22: Villagers of Sahupada today blocked the Kalamatia-Kuakhia Road demanding compensation for Bikash Mohanty, a mechanical engineer who died while working in Sri Lanka.

The villagers gheraoed Bari tehsildar Paramananda Behera, who accompanied the body to the village from the Biju Patnaik airport, and refused to receive the body.

Prabhat Mohanty, father of the deceased, said: "It's not a question of compensation, but, I did not get any document mentioning the circumstances leading to his death."

Behera said the district administration was requested by the deceased's father to receive the body at the airport on his behalf and deliver to him. Prabhat said that he had got to know from officials of Deccan Constructions Limited in Sri Lanka last month that his son had died of cardiac arrest on April 24.
