Kendrapara: The administration here has stumbled upon a fraud, in which nearly Rs 6 lakh has been allegedly embezzled from the District Red Cross society fund.

"There is no trace of at least 500 receipts, which are given to the donors in acknowledgement for their donation. The printed receipts, which are missing, date back 2014-15 year," said district emergency officer Namita Barik.

"There is every possibility of funds being collected against the receipts without being deposited in the Red Cross accounts," she said

An inquiry is being conducted into the alleged bungling. Those, who were in charge of Red Cross fund raising then, have been served notices to furnish compliance report on the missing receipts.

In another development, the administration has launched fund raising drive to ensure fiscal resources for the charity purpose.
