Married women across the state observed Savitri Vrata on Saturday and prayed for the well-being and long life of their husbands. There were long queues outside temples with women clad in sarees, carrying sindoor (vermillion) and different kinds of fruits that they offered to Goddess Savitri.
It was also a day of fasting for married women, who skipped meals and consumed only fruits during the day. Women inmates in various jails of the state also observed the festival with jail authorities making arrangements for puja. Members of the transgender community also took part in the festivities, praying for the well-being of their mentors.
