Cuttack: Police are probing into the running of a technical education centre at Jagatpur that offers courses in industrial safety and security without the government's approval.
Preliminary findings indicate that the technical education centre, TCIL - IT Education and Training Centre, was a fake institute.
The police had started investigation after receiving a complaint from duped students on Monday.
Anmol Samantaray, 25, of Mina Bazaar in Dhenkanal Town has lodged the complaint. He had taken admission into the institute's Postgraduate Diploma in Health and Safety Management course along with many others.
Anmol alleged in his complaint that it was only when studying that they came to know that the institute had no authorisation of the state government or the Directorate of Technical Education and Training (DTET) to impart such training.
Deputy commissioner of police Akhileswar Singh said: "We have received an allegation that the institute was collecting huge course fee from students and was issuing certificates though it had no approval of the DTET. Our investigation is on."
Sub-inspector P.K. Lenka, the investigating officer in the case, arrested institute director Ranjan Kumar Das on Monday.
Das, 31, is a resident of Kacharipada in Bagnan police limits in Howrah of Bengal.
