Kendrapara, Feb. 4: With the arrest of two brothers from Kendrapara, police today cracked the heist from the residence of additional advocate general of Sikkim High Court in Gangtok.
In a joint operation by Sikkim and Odisha police, two plumbers, both siblings, were arrested today from Parinuapada in the Rajkanika police station area.
It is alleged that on January 7, the duo had looted cash and ornaments in the house of J.B. Pradhan, additional advocate general of Sikkim High Court. The police said the duo had confessed to the crime.
“The police team recovered 300 grams of gold, 2kg of silver ornaments and Rs 2.5 lakh cash from their possession. The stolen jewellery is valued at Rs 10 lakh,” said Kendrapara superintendent of police Rabi Narayan Behera.
The arrested, Manoj Beuria, 30, and Pankaj Beuria were produced before the Aul judicial magistrate first class court and taken on judicial remand by Sikkim police.
The plumbers had gone to Gangtok two years ago. A local contractor had engaged them to do repair work of drinking water pipelines at Pradhan’s residence. During the course of their job, the accused had gained access into Pradhan’s quarters. Later, they committed the heist on January 7 night when Pradhan couple were not at home.
“The duo had no crime records. After committing the heist, they left for their native Parinuapada village. Sikkim police had traced their whereabouts in Kendrapara through mobile tracking system. Later, in a joint operation, they were apprehended,” Behera said.
