Cuttack, Dec. 12: Police on Thursday began investigation into the death of final-year arts student of Ravenshaw University Moonmoon Chakravarthy, who allegedly jumped to death at a mall in Darghabazar on Tuesday.

Senior officials of Darghabazar police station today collected academic records of Moonmoon in the previous semester examinations.

This came after family members had alleged that some teachers had harassed Moonmoon. Moonmoon had allegedly committed suicide by jumping off the third floor of a shopping mall under Darghabazar police limits on Tuesday evening.

Moonmoon’s family members had alleged that the final-year student was upset because she was not getting support from her teachers.

“Police had sought various details about her. We have provided all the documents to them,” said registrar Padan Jena.

On December 17, Moonmoon had left her house at around 6pm and died after falling from the third floor of the shopping mall at Darghabazar at around 7pm. Though she was immediately rushed to SCB Medical College and Hospital, she later succumbed to injuries.

“We want a detailed investigation into the incident as it is unclear whether she had committed suicide or was killed,” said Pinku, mother of Moonmoon.

The police on the other hand said that an unnatural death case was registered yesterday and further investigation in this connection is on. Sources said a lot of people had seen Moonmoon sitting alone at an isolated place at the shopping mall on the day of the incident.

“We are trying to ascertain whether it was accidental fall or the girl committed suicide,” said Biranchi Narayan Pati, inspector in charge of Dargha Bazar police station.

Pati said efforts were on to ascertain whether anybody had accompanied the girl to the shopping mall or not. Moreover, the video footage of the shopping mall will also be reviewed soon.

Earlier, Jyotirmayi Kuturka, a Plus Three first-year arts student of Ravenshaw University, had also died under mysterious circumstances on December 5.

Kuturka’s body was found near Kathajodi railway bridge and it is suspected that she had committed suicide with the police recovering a diary in which the deceased had mentioned that it was her last day and begged forgiveness from her parents.
