Bhubaneswar, July 26: The first selection merit list for admission into junior colleges was published today. A total of 2,34,716 candidates have been shortlisted, said officials of department of higher education (DHE).

The cut-off marks for all the 1,282 junior colleges, including self-financing institutions, covered under Plus Two e-admission procedure are available on the DHE website (www.dheorissa.in). Intimation letters have been sent out to the selected candidates, who have to report at the allotted college on the specified date. The first round of admissions would take place between August 1 and 5. “Applicants should not wait for the intimation letters. They can either download it from the website or ask for a printout of the letter at the resource centre where they submitted their form,” said S.N. Mohanty, principal of BJB Junior College.

A candidate must take admission at the allotted college even if it is his/her lower preference so that he/she would be considered for the higher preferences as per the second selection list. However, in case you do not take admission at the given college, you would miss the opportunity of being upgraded to a more meritorious college and lose the entire academic year.

If you take admission against lower options in the first selection process and wish to continue in that college, submit an application form to prevent being upgraded during second selection. If you fail to submit the undertaking at the time of admission, you would be upgraded and removed from the first selection college. In such a situation, it would be mandatory for you to take admission in the higher preference college.

In case of any trouble or confusion, call up Sanjog, the e-admission helpline number (155335). For a total sanctioned strength of 3,07,500 seats in 1,282 junior colleges across the state, 2,75,212 applications had been submitted.

This year, more than 32,000 seats at the Plus Two level would go vacant.

The list for second selection would be announced on August 11 at 11am and admission would be held on August 16 and 17. Classes would begin from August 23.

Single calendar

Meanwhile, admissions and publication of results of all the Plus Two and Plus Three colleges in the state will be carried out on the same day. The department of higher education has come up with an idea of implementing single calendar system for all the colleges.

According to the new calendar the final year examinations of all colleges offering graduation will be conducted on March 2 and the examinations for Plus Three second year will be held on March 22. Similarly, April 22 has been fixed as the date of examinations for Plus Three first year.

In case of Plus Two, the examinations will be carried out on February 22. The results will be published within 45 to 60 days from the date of commencement of examinations. The academic session will begin from June 16.

The higher education department has also made 75 percentage of attendance compulsory for appearing in the examination.
