Cuttack, Sept. 9: A plan will be prepared to resolve waterlogging problem at Satabdi Vihar and nearby localities under ward No. 1 of the municipal corporation.

A district administration official said a technical sub-committee would be formed to prepare the plan to restore the natural drainage channel, which had been blocked at several points due to illegal encroachments.

Senior officials of the Cuttack Municipal Corporation, Cuttack MP Bhatruhari Mahatab, local legislator Debasish Samantray, officials of sewerage board and the Japan International Co-operation Agency today visited Satabdi Vihar to make an on-the-spot assessment of the situation.

“A technical committee will be formed to resolve the waterlogging problem in the area,” said collector Nirmal Chandra Mishra.

Based on the report by a technical sub-committee, steps would be taken to clear encroachments on government land as well as on the natural drainage channel.

“We have been facing severe problems due to waterlogging for the past eight years, and we hope that things will improve as senior officials have assured us of taking immediate measures to improve the drainage system,” said Mrutyunjay Mohanty, president of the Satabdi Vihar Residents’ Association.

Mohanty said the wastewater from many areas, including Tarini Vihar and others from Mainsigotha, was getting accumulated at Satabdi Vihar via a natural drainage channel.

The channel has been blocked at several points, including Krushak Bazar, Ipsar College and Sati Choura, making it a problem in direct release of wastewater into Petanala at CDA.
