Cuttack, Jan. 11: There will be more green patches here, as the municipal corporation will shortly develop parks in the city.

The park development project will be carried out under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (Amrut) scheme.

Senior officials said four parks - Biswanath Pandit Park at Khannagar, Akshay Mohanty Park at Kanika Chhak, Chandan Pokhari Park at Choudhury Bazaar and Jobra Park - have been included under the project.

Senior corporation officials said apart from the Amrut scheme, work on the development of two more parks - Chahata Park and Gopabandhu Park - would be carried out with its own park and plantation funds.

"Rs 2.03 crore will be spent to develop basic infrastructure at the four identified parks and this has already been approved by the state government," said chairperson of the municipal corporation's standing committee on parks and plantations A. Sridevi.

The Union ministry of urban development, housing and urban poverty alleviation has outlined the Amrut project to ensure basic infrastructure services related to water supply, sewerage, storm-water drains, transport and development of green spaces and parks.

Sridevi said a private consultancy firm had already been roped in to prepare the necessary designs and drawing for the park development project.

The civic body's focus is on improving the parks with special emphasis on installation of play equipment for children, sitting and lighting arrangements and drinking water facilities.

Senior officials said that the Akshay Mohanty park at Kanika Chhak has almost lost its identity and it would will be re-constructed as a large portion of the park had been damaged while constructing a drain under the integrated sanitation project.

The Cuttack Municipal Corporation manages around 36 parks while the Cuttack Development Authority has seven parks -four at the satellite township and three at Mahanadi Vihar of the city.
