Bhubaneswar: The public works department is planning to build separate parking spaces for two-wheelers at the heads of departments building and the state secretariat.
Even though these are the two biggest and most-visited government establishments in Bhubaneswar, the parking systems in both places are not streamlined.
Vehicles are parked randomly on the respective office campuses.
"We have decided to construct separate facilities for two-wheelers on these two establishments. At present, there are sheds for the parking of two and four-wheelers. But they are not sufficient for the number of vehicles that come to these buildings on a daily basis," said an official of the works department.
The officials are considering two locations for the parking facility at the state secretariat - a 3,630sqft space behind the south annex building and another 5,000sqft space behind the finance commission building.
"The location near the south annex building is fine, but we need to clear five stores from the space behind the finance commission building. We are considering of relocating the stores to the ground floor of public health office building near the secretariat," said the official.
In case of the heads of departments building, the authorities have decided to construct the parking facility in the east of the complex.
"There is enough space inside the complex, most of which is under-utilised," said Sailesh Hota, an employee here.
In the past, the works department had planned to construct a multi-storey parking facility behind the secretariat building, which was to be used by the employees and visitors to heads of department building and the state secretariat. The plan had been dropped for security reasons.
