Bhubaneswar, Nov. 17: The fact-finding committee constituted to look into the functioning of the Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) and the goof-up in conducting the Plus Two examinations this year submitted its report to the state government today.

The committee, in its report, has suggested how the evaluation process of the examinations could be improved and what steps could be taken to prevent further problems.

Around 55,000 students had applied for re-evaluation in physics, chemistry and mathematics following publication of the results.

Following the incident, the state government had formed the four-member committee comprising retired principal of the Ravenshaw College Amulya Kumar Panda, retired principal of the BJB Junior College Bijay Chandra Rath, retired vice-principal of the BJB Junior College Satya Ranjan Mishra and joint secretary of the higher education department Ajay Kumar Nayak.

Besides suggesting changes in this year’s CHSE, the committee recommended amendment of the Odisha Higher Secondary Education Act and regulations, 1982.

It has also suggested revision of syllabus, re-checking in the examination system and recommended new examination reforms.

“It is up to the government to decide if it would consider our recommendations and if these suggestions would be introduced during this annual higher secondary examination or the next,” said Amulya Kumar Panda, who is leading the committee.

The CHSE has decided to hold the Plus Two exams between March 2 and 24. While examination for the science stream will start on March 2, the arts and commerce examinations will begin on March 3 and 4 respectively.

The council has decided to hold the practical examination a month before the theory papers to give students enough time to prepare for the main examinations. The practical examinations for science will be held between January 27 and February 2.
