OUCH! ROAD UNDER REPAIR

Read more below

Callousness Of Agencies Carrying Out Road Expansion And Repair Work Across The City Is Causing Hardships To Commuters As They Are Not Barricading The Area Or Putting Up Any Signage To Forewarn Them About Danger Zones Ahead. The Telegraph Takes A Look Published 10.04.14, 12:00 AM

Tankapani Road

The expansion work of the Tankapani Road, connecting Ravi Talkies Square with the Sai Temple has finally started after the completion of the sewer line work. The work, which was initiated two years ago, has left almost half of the existing road completely excavated for the expansion job. This has created problems for the commuters, who depend on Tankapani Road. As the contractor has not barricaded the road, vehicles using it during evening hours are facing a difficult time. On Tuesday, a truck (see picture) met with an accident as the driver lost control and could not negotiate through the excavated debris near the compound of Rajarani Temple.

Officialspeak

I will ask the contractor concerned to put barricade of tapes along the stretch where the road work is under progress on the Tankapani Road

assistant engineer, PWD (Division I)

Forest Park

A damaged manhole, which is part of the old sewerage system and maintained by the public health engineering organisation (PHEO), is being repaired. The callousness of those on the job has caused at least four minor accidents, including one on Tuesday night when a father-son duo fell from the bike. As the bike was coming from the Ganganagar side and heading towards Sishu Bhavan Square, the blinding glare of headlights from the opposite side dazzled the biker who lost control and fell. The authorities have failed to put up minimum warning signs at the spot to make commuters aware of the manhole. The repair site is near the traffic square, which experiences major traffic flow heading towards Naveen Nivas and the city airport.

Officialspeak

I will ask the junior engineer concerned to take immediate step to clear the debris by tomorrow

Biswabandhu Panigrahi,
assistant engineer, PHEO (Division I)

Palaspalli-Pokhariput Road

The expansion of the Palaspalli-Pokhariput Road is progressing at a smooth pace near the Kargil Basti, but the excavated portions along the old stretch are lying without any barricade and causing minor mishaps. As the Kargil Basti has hundreds of kids and the road is also used by students of the nearby DAV Public School, Pokhariput, the callous attitude of the public works department has invited criticism from

local residents. The road expansion work had stopped after the contractor died last year. After re-tendering was done in January, work has since begun.

Officialspeak

I have given instruction to the contractor to install proper barricade along the excavated portions on the Palaspalli-Pokhariput Road so that people do not face any difficulty.

Sisir Mishra,
assistant engineer, PWD (Division II)
