Bhubaneswar, Aug. 30: Author, translator and lexicographer Bikram K. Das launched WordMaster English-English-Oriya dictionary last week to address the specific needs of young English and Oriya learners.

This is Das’s first endeavour. He has been in the field of English translation for years and has been compiling a dictionary. The linguist believes the compilation of the dictionary was one of his most ambitious projects.

“It took four years to compile the dictionary. It is a comprehensive guide for students at the middle, secondary and upper secondary levels of education. It can also be used for general reference,” said Das.

The dictionary has several innovative features. Every word in the dictionary is followed by an illustrative sentence that clearly defines the meaning of the word and demonstrates its usage.

Additional grammatical information and pronunciation, both in English and Oriya, accompany each word.

Das has authored several books that offer guidance on effective communication in English.

His translation of Gopinath Mohanty’s Paraja won him the Central Sahitya Academy Award for Translation in 1989.
