New priest of mutt

Bhubaneswar: Indira Ramanuj will be the new mahanta of the Emar Mutt in Puri. Bijay Ramanuj will be the mutt's spokesperson. The state endowment commission had constituted a five-member committee to look into affairs of the Emar Mutt yesterday. The mutt rituals had stopped after its head had been sent to jail for looting the sliver bricks.

Road block

Bhubaneswar: Villagers of Barsia of Rairakhol blocked the NH-55 for two hours following death of man after being attacked by a wild elephant. The deceased, identified as one Bishikesan Mirdha, was going to the adjacent village on his bike when the elephant attacked him killing him on the spot. The deceased was on his way to distribute cards to his relatives for the funeral ceremony of his uncle.

Kid’s centre

Bhubaneswar: An activity centre for kids was inaugurated at Utkalika in Rail Vihar to enhance the creative talents among children. Children, between age group from six to 12 years, of the railway employees can join centre to learn various creative activities such as, origami, paper craft, painting, book reading, story telling and various indoor games.

Murder case

Jajpur: The prime accused in the sensational Sukinda double murder surrendered before the judicial magistrate first class court at Jajpur Road on Saturday evening. The accused, Ganeswar Mahanta of Bandhagaon Natisahi in Jajpur district, had stabbed his widow aunt Kanchana Mahanta (38) and her father Dukhabandu Mahanta (62) to death at their residence in March 14.

Suspended

Balasore: The transport commissioner of Balasore has placed a junior motor vehicles inspector under suspension following allegations of corruption against him. We found unscrupulous people on the government office premises .since the junior motor vehicles inspector allowed them, we have taken action against him,” said Surendra Kumar, transport commissioner.
