Bhubaneswar: A sudden power failure at the Biju Pattnaik Airport on Tuesday evening disrupted the normal flight operations as the lights on the rain way remained off for ore than half an hour. he airport’s director, V. Chandran, said several flights had to be diverted following the electrical snag. He, however, did not mention the exact number of the cancelled flights. He said it was a technical problem and everything returned to normal after engineers sorted it out. Our operational and technical persons had conducted a routine check up around 5.45pm. The problem might have taken place after that. We are checking how such incident occurred. We will do our best to avoid any such snags in the future,” said Chandran. Berhampur: An assistant sub-inspector of police was killed when the bike he was riding collided with a truck coming from opposite direction near Khabagagha, 35km from here, on Tuesday. The deceased, Sankarshan Panda, 44, was posted at the sub-divisional police officer’s (SDPO) office at Aska. Constable Sanjay Bishoyi, 30, who was a pillion rider, was also left seriously injured in the road accident. He had to be shifted to Visakhapatnam for further treatment. The truck has been seized and the driver of the vehicle has been arrested. Bhubaneswar: Nalco Foundation, in collaboration with Orissa State Poultry Products Cooperative Marketing Federation Limited (Opolfed), on Tuesday launched a backyard poultry programme in Angul. In the first phase of the programme, 80 beneficiaries will be trained in four batches. The training for the programme will be provided by Opolfed.
