Sambalpur: A five-year-old kid was killed in a road accident on Gaity Talkies Road near Golbazar in the city on Sunday morning. Nitin Singh, a student of Madnawati Public School, was run over by a truck. According to source, the kid was going with his grandfather. Satyendra Dash, a local resident and an eyewitness of the incident, said: “The trucks should not be permitted to enter the city during the day time. Though we have repeatedly filed complaint with the civic authorities to shift the market of Golbazar to the nearby Kamli Bazar, they are indifferent to our concern. Because of this wholesale market, heavy traffic congestion and accidents have become a regular phenomenon.” Police said the driver of the vehicle had been detained and a case registered. Balasore: Balasore wing of the Odisha Vikalanga Manch (OVM) has threatened to launch an agitation for indefinite period in front of the collectorate from May 23 demanding action against people obtaining fake disability certificates and misutilising them for job reservations. “We have proofs that able and fit persons have obtained disability certificates depriving us from the benefits,” said Sudhakar Sethi, OVM local president adding, “the district administration should take initiative for an inquiry into the allegations”. Cuttack: The much awaited city bus service between the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar is likely to start on Monday. According to officials of the Dream Team Sahara, operators of the buses under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission, the service would start at around 6pm. On Tuesday, the city bus service in the Millennium City will provide free rides for the citizens to experience the new ride. Bhubaneswar: The heat wave like condition continued in the capital city on Sunday though there was a fall in the day time temperature of 37.6 degree Celsius while Cuttack recorded 37.1 degree Celsius. According to officials of the Indian Meteorology Department (IMD), through there was a fall in the temperature in the coastal region, the interior parts of the state are still under intense heat wave like condition. This has also resulted in a water crisis in the western and southern districts. “The condition will continue for next 48 hours,” IMD officials said. Balasore: The district administration has sought an inquiry into the alleged allegations against a children's home at Soro. Some of the parents alleged that their wards in the home at Alada, Kharasahpur, were subjected to torture. While the children were asked to guard ducks, hens and goats and on refusal, subjected to cal torture. “We have asked the child welfare committee to probe into the allegations. The district social welfare officer will also submit a report,” said additional district magistrate Sribatsa Jena.
