Jawans get burn injuries

Bhubaneswar: Two jawans of Orissa State armed Police forces sustained burn injuries while trying to dowse the fire set on an effigy of Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayavati by Congress workers. The Congress supporters were burning the effigy in protest against the arrest of AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi in Uttar Pradesh. The jawans, identified as I.B. Satry and Tej Bahadur, were admitted to Capital Hospital for treatment. They were discharged after being administered first aid.

Train timings

Bhubaneswar:East Coast Railway (ECoR) would carry out some maintenance work between Sikir and Titilagarh stations of Sambalpur Division from 5.45am to 11.45am on Friday. As a result, some trains will be cancelled and others rescheduled. While the Raipur-Titlagarh-Jharsuguda-Raipur Passenger would be cancelled from both directions, Sambalpur-Rayagada Express has been rescheduled to leave Sambalpur at 8.45am instead of 6.30 am. Similarly, Sambalpur-Nizamabad Express has been rescheduled to leave at 9.30am instead of 9.00am from Sambalpur on Friday.

Power cut

Cuttack: Power supply would remain suspended between 8am and 2pm on Saturday in the areas surrounding the Kishan Nagar sub-station in the city due to repair work at the sub-station. imilarly, power supply would be stopped between 8am and 2pm on Sunday due to sub-station repairs in the areas of Central Rice Research Institute, Bidyadharpur, Chauliaganj and Orissa Power Generation Corporation sub-station of the city.

Raids

Balasore:Sleuths of vigilance special squad, Cuttack, have been carrying out raids in different places including the office and residence of local executive engineer of roads and buildings Sudhir Panda, following allegations of irregularities in awarding tenders and inferior work.

One held

Bhubaneswar: Vigilance officials on Thursday arrested Chhabindra Nath Behera, junior assistant of the Orissa State Housing Board, for taking bribe. According to vigilance officials, Behera took Rs 1,500 from one Niranjan Bihari for transferring ownership of a house that he had purchased in 2003 in the city. Bihari had been trying to transfer the ownership for last eight years but Behera was not helping him. Behera demanded the money from Bihari on Friday, he informed vigilance officials who laid a trap to arrest the housing board employee.

Close shave

Bhubaneswar:Keonjhar MLA Subarna Nayak had a close shave on Thursday, when the vehicle in which he was travelling met with an accident near Anandapur. The vehicle was badly damaged in the mishap.
