Power tariff may go up

Bhubaneswar: Power tariff is likely to increase as the Supreme Court has rejected the Orissa Electricity Regulatory Commission’s appeal to continue with the cross-subsidy system. The commission had moved the apex court against the Appellate Tribunal’s order in this regard. arlier, the domestic consumers got the benefit as the commission had imposed higher tariff on industrial houses and lesser tariff per unit of power on general consumers under the cross-subsidy system. Challenging this order, one of the industrial houses had moved the court.

PC visit

Bhubaneswar: Union home minister P. Chidambaram is scheduled to visit the state on Wednesday. He will review the development programmes in the Maoist-affected districts. The home minister will meet chief minister Naveen Patnaik and other senior ministers. In view of his visit, security has been beefed up in the naxal-prone areas of the state.

Posco team

Bhubaneswar: Officials of South Korean steelmaker Posco met the chairman-cum-managing director of the state-run Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation Priyabrata Pattnaik and discussed about the progress of the project. The team discussed about construction of approach road to the project site.

Flight schedule

Bhubaneswar: There are modifications in flight schedule in AIR India operation in Bhubaneswar from Wednesday. Flight No. AI 9603 and AI 9604 would now operate on all days except Wednesday till further changes, confirmed an official statement. Flight No. AI 9603 will leave Delhi at 5.30am. It will depart Bhubaneswar at 8am and reach Port Blair at 10am. imilarly, flight No. AI 9604 will depart from Port Blair at 10.30am and arrive in Bhubaneswar at 12.30pm. It will depart at 1pm and arrive in Delhi at 3pm.

Dharna

Cuttack: Demanding inclusion of underpass and construction of crossways for pedestrians in the ongoing six-laning work on NH-5, the residents of Gopalpur and Balikuda under the aegis of the Nagarik Surakhsya Manch on Wednesday staged a dharna near Gopalpur on the city outskirts.he residents of several villages are demanding for an underpass at Bamphkund as many heavy vehicles are plying on the NH-5 from Gopalpur and Balikuda sides. The agitators have threatened to paralyse the NH-5 if their demands are not fulfiled.

Infant body

Bhubaneswar: Police recovered the body of a nearly three-year-old girl child from near the SN High School at Patia close to the railway station on Wednesday. he local residents spotted the body in the afternoon and immediately informed Chandrasekharpur police, who recovered the body and took it to Capital Hospital for post-mortem.
