Naveen launches state’s online atlas
Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday inaugurated 'Odisha Sampad', a web-based GIS (geographic information system) atlas of all the blocks in the state.
The atlas contains spatial and statistical information of all the 314 blocks of the state and the villages falling under them. The web-based atlas is developed by the Orissa Space Application Centre (ORSAC). The information content has been built on the basis of satellite interpretation, survey at the block level and maps of other departments and agencies.
The objective of the Odisha Samapd is to provide database of all the blocks relating to their natural resources, environment, infrastructure, socio-economic conditions and demography. The database can be viewed by the citizens at the ORSAC website www.orsac.org or www.odishasampad.in from Wednesday morning.
Jajpur: One hundred kilogram of explosives was recovered from Raighati forest where a fierce encounter took place between Maoists and the joint security forces two days ago, said Jajpur police on Tuesday.
Jajpur SP D.S. Kuttey said that the police teams found improvised explosive device (IED) including 200 gelatin sticks, 10kg cordex, high explosive IDL-emul booster 300, 100 metres of electric wire, electrical detonator-3 and one plastic drum from the forest.
The search operation was conducted in the Raighar forest and its nearby areas after the killing of five Maoists in an encounter on Sunday night.
'We have recovered around one quintal of high quality explosives from the forest during our search operation. The explosives are being defused under a culvert between Tomka and Kaliapani road.' said SP, Kuttey.
Bhubaneswar: The Youth Congress on Tuesday called off its hunger strike after its president Pradeep Majhi was admitted to the hospital. The youth wing was on an indefinite fast for the last six days demanding adequate compensation to the farmers of rain-hit areas.
Union minister Srikant Jena met the Congress workers at the hunger strike site and assured that he would facilitate a meeting of the Congress delegation with the Prime Minister on the issue of compensation to farmers. He also criticised the state for not helping the cause of farmers.
Bhubaneswar: The BJP on Tuesday decided to approach the National Human Rights Commission on the issue of alleged killing of its leader Madhab Singh Thakur and his associate Ramesh Sahu by police in an alleged false encounter.
'They are our activists. We will knock the doors of the NHRC,” said BJP national general secretary Ananta Kumar.
