Telugu meet in Silk city

Berhampur: Preparations are in full swing for the sixth all-India Telugu conference to be held at City High School grounds in Berhampur from February 4 to 6. The conference is being organised jointly by Poti Sriramulu Telugu University, and the Mandali Venkat Krishna Rao (MVKR) International Telugu Centre of Andhra Pradesh in coordination with Andhra Bhashabivardhini Samajam and other Telugu organisations of Orissa, said P. Satyanarayana, organising chairman of the conference. The conference is aimed at promoting Telugu language, tradition and culture.

Guilty doctor

Cuttack: The court of the chief judicial magistrate on Wednesday framed charges against 13 doctors for alleged involvement in the brutal assault on a lawyer and his relative inside the S.C.B. Medical College and Hospital more than ten years ago. Chief judicial magistrate P. K. Kinara framed charges of attempt to murder, voluntarily causing hurt and rioting under different sections of the Indian Penal Code against the 13 doctors, while fixing February 28 for commencement of trial. Among those against whom the charges were framed for included Jayanta Biswal, Chandrabhanu Parija, Tareni Sahu, Lalmohan Ho, Ashutosh Das,Sushanta Mukhi, Deepak Behera, Devashis Giri, Sasanka Sekhar Sahu, Jyoti Prakash Biswal, Sanjay Kuzur, Dhananjay Tudu and Srikanta Jena.

Six killed

Berhampur: Six persons, including two women, were killed and seven others injured when a mini truck collided with another loaded truck on the National Highway-5 at Rambha about 60-km from here on Wednesday. The injured have been admitted in Rambha Hospital. Police have identified the dead as Dharani Das (45) and Bijay Behera (50) from Kumarpur near Khallikote, T. Arjun Patra (27) and B. Papamma Patra (35) from Minchinipatna, B. Chelliamma Patra (46) from Kathabeda.rikanta Jena.

Effigy burnt

Balangir: Members of the Paschim Odisha Adivasi Kalyan Mahasangha on Wednesday sat on a dharna for indefinite period in front of the district collectorate here demanding arrest of revenue divisional commissioner of northern division Pradeepta Kumar Mahapatra. They demanded to book him under SC ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989. The agitating tribal also burnt the effigy of the commissioner. They have lodged an FIR at the town police station here alleging that he had misbehaved with the members of the association.

New record

Balasore: The Talcher Thermal Power Station of the NTPC Limited has made a record generation of 350.422 million units at a plant load factor of 102.39 per cent during last month. This has surpassed the previous highest monthly output of 350.1233 million units, achieved by the 460 MW power station in Angul district in March, 2010, an official release stated.
