Cuttack: Unidentified persons on Wednesday allegedly looted Rs 2 lakh from the employees of a petrol pump near Biribati bridge. The incident occurred around 2pm when two employees of Sanjib Service and Filling Centre located at Deopur near Kandarpur were on their way to deposit the cash in Central Bank of India, Biribati branch on a scooter. ccording to reports, three helmet borne men attacked the employees, Saroj Behera and Saroj Sahoo, and looted the cash at gunpoint. Both Behera and Sahoo were left critically injured in the attack and are now undergoing treatment at the Sriram Chandra Bhanja (S.C.B.) Medical College and Hospital. Bhubaneswar: In view of the engagement of teachers in census operation, the state government has decided to start the new academic year from April 15 instead of April 1. Earlier, the government had shifted the dates of HSC exam 2011 to March. ince it will not possible to hold final exam for classes 1 to 9 in schools because of logistical problems, the exams will be held from April 1 to 9 in all schools, a government release said. Berhampur: Twelve prisoners, including seven convicts, appeared for the HSC examination from the Berhampur Jail School premises on Wednesday. hey include Dilip Nayak, who was convicted in a murder case in Aska in 1996 and sentenced to life imprisonment, and Siba Bisoyi, an under trial prisoner in Chicken Rabi murder case. At least 12 local organisations, including Nirakari Mission Pochilima, Satya Sai Seva Samiti, Rotary Club, Youth Christian Association, Dibya Jiban Sangha, Art of Living, Christian Diocese and others have shouldered the financial burden of education of these prisoners. hey provided Rs 1,600 for their admission and Rs 385 for filling up forms. They have also purchased test papers for the prisoners. Bhubaneswar: The death toll in Tuesday’s hailstorm has gone up to six. Two deaths each were reported from Puri, Cuttack and Kendrapara. The government has announced that the next kin of the deceased persons would be granted an ex-gratia amount of Rs1 lakh in each case. The government would also extend financial assistance to rebuild the houses damaged by the storm. It would give Rs 35,000 as a compensation for pucca houses that have been completely damaged. Bhubaneswar: At least seven girls were injured, four of them seriously, at Phulbani on Wednesday while they were on their way to appear for the matriculation exams. The mishap occured when the autorickshaw in which they were travelling overturned while tackling a curve near Bujulimendi village. The injured were first admitted to Sankarakhole Primary Health Centre and later shifted to the district headquarters hospital.
