Sex racket busted

Puri: Police on Tuesday night busted a sex-racket and arrested four people, including a girl. The police also seized a four-wheeler from the spot. Kalia alias Akshya Das had taken a house on rent in an area under Baliapanda police station. Getting a tip off, police raided the house on Tuesday night and arrested the girl, Das, and two customers.

Woman dead

Angul: An old woman who came to receive old age pension at sabhaghar at Athamallick on Wednesday collapsed at the camp. She was taken to Athmalick Sub-Divisional Hospital where doctors declared her brought dead. The woman was identified as Nishamani Nayak (65) of Kusumkuhuri village. According to the block development officer, D.K. Sahu, the woman had come to receive her pension from minister Sanjeev Sahu at the camp. After the minister departed at 10am , Nishamnai died there. She had, however, received her pension, the BDO said.

Kids burnt

Bhubaneswar: Three children, all between the age of five and eight years, were burnt alive after their hut caught fire on Tuesday night. The incident occurred at Matiaguda village of Mayurbhanj district. Their parents were away when the incident happened.

Protest

Bhubaneswar: Protesting against the incident of bomb throwing at the house of Paradip Municipality's vice-chairman Basanta Kumar Biswal, his supporters on Wednesday took to the streets. They shouted slogans and rallied through the town alleging that police were not arresting the culprits deliberately. Three bombs were hurled at Biswal’s house in the Madhuban area on Sunday night.

MLA charged

Paradip: Villagers of Erada village under Jagatsinghpur district on Wednesday lodged a complaint with police accusing BJD legislator Bishnu Das of masterminding the murder of a BSF jawan on April 4. “We are investigating the matter to check his role in the incident,” said Jitendra Dalai, inspector, Niali police station.
