Oriya as second language e-municipality Dengue toll Stampede Student dead

Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Naveen Pattnaik on Wednesday welcomed the Jharkhand government’s decision to recognise Oriya as second language. “This will benefit lakhs of Oriyas living in Jharkhand,” he said, thanking Jharkhand chief minister Arjun Munda. Various associations in Orissa and Jharkhand had been demanding the recognition of Oriya as the second language for a long time.

e-municipality

Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday launched the e-municipality project. A total of 11 services will be provided under this scheme. In the first phase 44 urban local bodies can avail the benefits of the project. The urban local bodies include three municipality corporations, 37 municipalities and three notified area councils.

Dengue toll

Bhubaneswar: The death toll from dengue on Wednesday rose to 24 from 23 with one more death being reported from Ayush Hospital. The deceased was from Angul district. On Wednesday 183 samples were tested at SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack, and Capital Hospital here. Out of the 182 samples tested in SCB, 14 tested positive. The one sample tested in Capital Hospital was also found positive.

Stampede

Kendrapara: At least seven women were injured following a stampede during the observance of Local Self-Government Day at the local municipality complex here on Wednesday. Stampede ensued after an electrical short-circuit triggered smoky layer inside the municipality auditorium where women were participating in various competitions. About 300 women had assembled at the auditorium.

Student dead

Bhubaneswar: A student at the Damadua Sevashram School in Parlakhemundi died of alleged food poisoning. The deceased Sasmita Sabara, of Class IV had fallen ill after taking food on Monday. Several other students had developed symptoms of diarrhoea and had been shifted to the hospital.
