Bhubaneswar, June 16: A group of techies has come up with a website and a mobile app to serve as a one-stop destination for those seeking information on the city.

The group consisting of 10 students of the IT department of College of Engineering and Technology (CET) here has designed the platforms aimed to cater to the needs of tourists and citizens traversing through the city.

The website, www.tourbbsr.in, provides a lot of information regarding various sightseeing spots and the ways to reach them. Similar information is also available in the mobile app designed for android phones and available in Google Play.

One can also get a brief description of the city's history. People willing to spend some leisure time here can get details about various shopping outlets, parks and cinemas located in various locations of the city.

The members affirm that they had conceived the idea in April and it was launched on June 14 at Google I/O Extended conference held at Odisha Bhavan. "We have many friends, who come from the rural areas to study at our college. They often faced problems, as they did not have much information about the city. The idea struck then," said Rudrakhya Badu, the founder of the group.

There is transport section on the website and the App, where details about bus, autorickshaw and taxi facilities are available. As one browses through a specified location, the phone numbers of autoriskshaw pliers in the area would be provided. The contact numbers of various agents providing cab facilities are also available.

One can also get a detailed report of all the buses plying to and from the city, along with phone numbers of the bus drivers. Visitors can also check into the emergency contact list for important numbers of blood bank, ambulance service among others.

Contact numbers and addresses catering to the citizens' daily needs such as driving school, domestic help services, beauty parlours, pet shops, carpenter and electricians service are also there.

"We spoke to the auto and bus associations to gather information about their routes of travel. We also confirmed with the police stations of the area to ensure that the contact numbers of the auto drivers we have provided do not have any criminal background," said Sriparna Patra, content analyst for the website.

The group has plans to make the mobile app available for other OS such as windows and iOS.

The members have a Facebook and Twitter pages as well where they keep on updating recent happenings in the city.
