Balangir: One person died in a clash between two families over construction of house under the Indira Awas Yojana at Silua village on Monday night.
The deceased has been identified as Abhi Chhatria.
Five others have suffered injuries in the incident. The injured have been admitted at Titilagarh sub-divisional hospital. Abhi's brother Basanta Chhatria was shifted to district headquarters hospital as his condition deteriorated.
Police have been deployed at the village to maintain law and order.
Police sources said the trouble started between the families of Abhi and his neighbor Dharani Chhatria when Abhi started building a house under the yojana on a land - to which Dharani's family objected saying that the land had dispute. They told Abhi to stop the work which took an ugly turn as the brawl broken out between the two families resulted in the clash. Members of both the families attacked each other with sticks and other weapons.
Abhi suffered severe head injury and bled to death on the spot, while Basanta got critically injured.
Acting on complaints from both the families, Titilagarh police have registered two cases.
The cops have reached the village and begun investigation. "We have registered two cases on the basis of complaints by both the parties. Police forces have been deployed at the village to avoid further law and order situation," said Titilagarh police station inspector-in-charge Bijayananda Karkara.
