Bhubaneswar, June 30: An employee of a private company, associated with cash transactions of a public sector bank, was arrested this morning from Chhend in Rourkela in connection with last Sunday night’s incident of cash loot from a Bank of Baroda ATM at Sector 19 of the town.

Cash worth Rs 4.8 lakh was also recovered from the possession of Arabind Samal.

Samal, 25, was an employee of Cash Management Service (CMS) that used to load cash in the ATMs of various banks. He was remanded in judicial custody after a local court rejected his bail plea.

Three persons, including Samal, looted a sum of Rs 12.59 lakh from the bank’s ATM at Sector 19 of Rourkela on Sunday night. They all had their face covered while entering the ATM kiosk.

While two of them overpowered the guard, another person, who was wearing a helmet, unlocked the ATM and removed the cash from it within minutes.

“We had formed two teams and conducted raids on various places. Acting on a tip-off, we arrested Samal from Chhend. He had masterminded the crime. We have launched a manhunt to arrest the other two,” said Rourkela police superintendent Himanshu Lal.

Samal hailed from Balisali village in Bari area of Jajpur district. He was staying at Koel Nagar in Rourkela.
