Bhubaneswar, Aug. 2: Kharavela Nagar police have arrested one person in connection with last night’s group clash at Press Colony in which two persons had suffered injuries.

The incident had sparked tension in the area where two platoons of police force had to be deployed. Tension escalated today when the police forwarded the accused, Sk. Moti, to court. Slum-dwellers gathered in large number in front of the police station and opposed the police action. However, the police managed to escort the accused to the court.

The complainant, Kamalakant Mohanty, sustained injuries when Sk. Moti attacked him with a bottle of cold drink around 10 last night. Mohanty said that he and his friend Nihar Ranjan Swain were gossiping in the colony when the accused suddenly attacked him. When Nihar came to his rescue, Moti attacked him, too, and snatched his gold chain.

“We don’t know why he attacked us,” said the complainant, adding that some other youths from the nearby slum also joined Sk. Moti in the assault.

Nihar, the other victim of the attack, said he was also beaten up and the attackers took away his gold chain when he intervened.

The Kharavela Nagar police rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to Capital Hospital. Doctors, however, let them go after preliminary treatment as they had minor injuries.
