Bhubaneswar, June 13: Online registration and choice-filling for web-counselling in the medical stream (MBBS and BDS) under the Odisha Joint Entrance Examination (OJEE), which was scheduled to start on June 15, was today postponed.

“We are yet to receive the seat matrix from the Medical Council of India (MCI). The next two days are holidays. That is why we have postponed the dates. In case we get the information, we will reconsider the dates,” said OJEE secretary Priyabrata Sahoo.

The state government had requested the MCI to increase seats in SCB and MKCG medical colleges. However, it is still not clear if the increase in seats has been approved. The seat matrix details from the MCI will be first be communicated to the directorate of medical education and training and later to the OJEE.

The authorities will have to wait for the counselling of the All India Premedical Entrance Examination for allotment of medical seats as 15 per cent seats in state medical colleges are filled through it. Around 2,800 students have qualified the OJEE medical for admission into some 600 seats.

The state has three government medical colleges — SCB in Cuttack, MKCG in Berhampur and VSS in Burla — having a seat intake of 150 each. There are three private medical colleges which include the Hitech Medical College, the Institute of Medical Science & SUM Hospital and the Kalinga Institute of Medical Science, all located in Bhubaneswar. Each of these private medical colleges have a capacity of 100 seats. Two dental colleges of the state — the Gandhi Dental College in Bhubaneswar and the SCB Dental College in Cuttack — have 50 seats each.
