Odisha swine flu toll hits 14

The official toll of swine flu deaths in Odisha went up to 14 after one more death was reported today.

Bhubaneswar, Aug. 19: The official toll of swine flu deaths in Odisha went up to 14 after one more death was reported today.

The swine flu victim was a 40-years-old woman from Sundargarh and was under treatment at Vimsar in Burla, health sources said. According to the information available from the Odisha health department, till yesterday, 13 persons died of the disease.

Today, 12 blood samples were found to be H1N1 positive (Sum Hospital 4, AMRI Hospital 2, SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack 1, Shree Hospital 1, Vimsar, Burla 4).

The district-wise break-up of swine flu positive cases detected today is Khurda 6, Baragarh 2, Angul 1 Cuttack 1, Sundargarh 1 and Sonepur 1.

Of them, nine are male and three female.So far, 619 samples have been tested this season, out of which 216 have been detected positive. The health department has distributed leaflets with FAQs and advised people not to panic.

The state has made arrangements for the treatment of the disease at three government-run medical college hospitals in Cuttack, Berhampur and Burla. Besides, similar facility is also available at Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar and Roukela Government Hospital. The doctors and paramedical staff members, who are treating the swine flu patients, have been vaccinated.

This apart, the Odisha government today deputed director of health services K.C. Dash and joint director Madan Mohan Pradhan to Malkangiri to monitor health service delivery in the flood-hit areas of the district.
