Two killed in accident

Cuttack: At least two persons were killed and another injured in a road mishap on NH-55 at Choudwar here on Thursday. The deceased have been identified as Jyoti Prakash Bai, 18, and Milan Mohanty, 21, of OTM colony while the injured Deba Prasad Mohanty, 20, is undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital. Police said the incident occurred around 10am when all the three youths travelling towards Manguli on a motorcycle were trying to overtake a truck. They were hit by another truck coming from the opposite direction. Jyoti and Milan died on the spot.

Protest

Bhubaneswar: Members of the Odisha Administrative Service Association on Thursday announced to protest against the non -implementation of the proposed restructuring of their cadre by the state government. The protest will begin from February 1, said the association office-bearers.

Bribe arrest

Cuttack: Vigilance sleuths on Thursday recovered cash worth Rs 30 lakh from the residence of Nirod Mohanty, inspector in charge of Khuntuni police station. The cash was recovered during a house search after Mohanty was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000 from Bramhananda Sahoo to eliminate his name from the chargesheet in connection with a kidnapping case. Mohanty had earlier demanded Rs 50,000 from Sahoo in connection with the case registered on January 8.

Fast ends

Berhampur: Ten undertrial prisoners, who were on indefinite hunger strike at the Berhampur Circle Jail, on Thursday called off their protest. They were on fast since January 26 demanding a speedy trial of the cases against them and regular production before the courts concerned. They were held for their alleged links with the Maoists. They called off the strike after the jail authorities promised to convey their grievances to various judges, district administration and to the state home department.
