Students protest against office shift
Bhubaneswar: Students of the Biju Patnaik Institute of Technology on Tuesday staged a protest before the institute’s office in Rourkela. They were protesting against shifting of the camp office from Bhubaneswar to Rourkela. he protesters squatted in front of the university's main office and shouted slogans against the authorities. Later, they met the vice-chancellor and submitted a memorandum. Rambha: Five goons robbed Rs 13 lakh of a local businessman when he was on his way to a bank to deposit the money. The incident took place around 10.15am on Tuesday. The goons reached the spot on bikes, snatched the bag from the victim Anil Subudhi and escaped. The police have detained three persons in connection with the case. BHUBANESWAR: Suspected Maoists killed a farmer at Modiguda village in Malkangiri district. The body of Sukra Khurami, who had been missing since Monday evening, was spotted outside the village with its throat slit. Police said a clear picture would emerge after the investigation. BhubaneswaR: The students’ body of the BJD today organised a rally on the coal scam issue that hit the nation two days ago. They demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Bhubanewar: Local residents locked up a primary school in Jatni after two girl students said they had been molested by the headmaster of a school. The Class IV students alleged that the headmaster, Gautam Chotray, had misbehaved with them. Irate locals locked up the school and demanded immediate action against the accused. Bhubaneswar: The state government on Tuesday sanctioned 6,384 new posts for the panchayati raj department. In a bid to expedite the Integrated Action Plan (IAP), the state government decided to appoint around 3,793 panchayat development officers in each panchayat of 18 districts covered under the IAP. The state government also approved 2,591 grampanchayat technical assistant posts. BHUBANESWAR: The Central Sahitya Akademi will conduct the annual national award ceremony for translators of various languages, including English and Nepali, in the city. he ceremony will also award the young authors for their literary skills. The three-day ceremony will begin on August 24 and the valedictory function will include a poetry recital programme “Abhivyakti”.
