BCCI visit Hospitals Protest

BCCI visit

Bhubaneswar: A special committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) led by former Test cricketer GR Viswanath will arrive here on February 27 to assess the proposal to accord Test venue status to Barabati Stadium. Sources in Odisha Cricket Association said that the committee was scheduled to visit Barabati Stadium to take stock of the existing infrastructure facilities for Test matches. A meeting of working committee of BCCI will be held on February 28 in Bhubaneswar.

Hospitals

Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday laid the foundation stone for two large hospitals promoted by Tata Steel at Gopalpur and Kalinganagar in presence of Tata group chairman Cyrus Pallonji Mistry. The two hospitals will have a combined capacity of 700 beds offering modern medical facilities to the people of Kalinganagar and Gopalpur.

Protest

Bhubaneswar: Nawarangpur MP Pradeep Majhi on Thursday called off his seven-day-long protest as Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee president Jaydev Jena met him and assured that the party would take up his cause. Majhi was staging a demonstration demanding immediate halt to police atrocities on tribals.

Modi visit

Bhubaneswar: BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi will come to the state on a one-day visit on March 12. He will address a public gathering in Sambalpur. It will be Modi's second visit to the state this year. Earlier, he had addressed a rally in Bhubaneswar. In another development, more than 2,000 office bearers of the BJP met and deliberated on the party’s strategy for the general elections.

Wildlife crime

Bhubaneswar: Crime branch on Thursday took up investigation of three cases of elephant poaching reported in Bamra wildlife division and Sambalpur forest division. A special investigating team has been constituted to this effect. The team shall investigate all the cases in a comprehensive manner to establish inter-state linkages of the crime. It will also focus on the organised nature of wildlife crime and seek to establish the identity of the involved accused persons.
