Kendrapara: Police on Sunday arrested a contractor Sangram Jena for maintaining close ties with gangsters and getting the contract awarded in his favour by coercive tactics. Last week, a sitting Congress councillor of Kendrapara municipality had been arrested along with three others for masterminding and operating the racket. The gang was involved in tender-fixing of government civil work by intimidation and muscle power. Kendrapara: Police on Sunday arrested a 52-year-old man for allegedly sexually abusing a seven-year-old girl in Kushunpur village under Marshaghai police station on Feb 13. The accused Pitambar Nayak was arrested and later sent to jail following rejection of his bail plea. The incident occurred when the child was playing alone in the backyard of her house. The matter triggered public outcry. Bhubaneswar: BJP leaders on Sunday criticised the state and central government for their high-profile campaigning using public money before the election. BJP spokesperson Sameer Mohanty said that both the governments had been indulged in corruption but were campaigning through media about their work done during their tenures.
