Cops recover cache of arms in forest

Jajpur: In a joint raid, Jajpur and Keonjhar police on Tuesday recovered a large number of arms, ammunitions and explosives from Aradapal forest in the border of the two districts. The raid was conducted after a tip-off from a CPI (ML) Janashakti leader Rabi Murmu who was arrested three days agohe seized items include two 8mm rifles, one 8mm pistol, 146 rounds live rounds of ammunition, seven boosters, 100 aluminium detonators, a screwdriver set and other explosives.

Convicted

Balasore: A fast-track court in Balasore on Tuesday sentenced a man accused of murder to life imprisonment and ordered him to pay a penalty of Rs 5,000. he accused, Sarat Giri, 28, of Khaira, had on January 1, 2009, attacked his mother-in-law Ashoka Nayak and neighbour Chintamani Nayak following a domestic dispute.

Workshop

BHUBANESWAR: A two day state-level workshop — Content generation based on children’s experience and continued comprehensive evaluation — organised by the school and mass education department, concluded on Tuesday. hirty pedagogy coordinators from as many districts participated in the workshop. The participants will return to their respective districts and hold discussions with children to prepare documents on various subjects, which will later be included in their textbooks.

Robbery

BHUBANESWAR: Two motorcycle-borne goons on Tuesday snatched the gold chain of a schoolteacher of Unit VIII boys’ high school. Sailaprava Hota was riding pillion on her husband’s bike, when she fell off while trying to fend off the criminals. She suffered grievous injuries and is undergoing treatment at Capital Hospital. he incident took place on NH 5 at Aiginia square. The police are probing into the incident.

Tusker dead

Sambalpur: A tusker on Tuesday died at the Tablei Deogaon forest reserve in Dhama forest range of Sambalpur, around 45km from here. The animal was under treatment for sometime. illagers had first spotted the injured elephant in the reserve forest and had handed it over to the authorities on July 24.

Rebel arrested

BHUBANESWAR: A Maoist rebel who tried to stop security forces from launching a search for BJD MLA Jhina Hikaka after his abduction in March, was arrested on Tuesday in Koraput. hima Huija was involved in roadblocks at Narayanpatna and Bandhugaon blocks when the MLA from Laxmipur was abducted. He was nabbed during a combing operation.

Vigilance raid

BHUBANESWAR: Vigilance sleuths on Tuesday conducted raids at the residents of an executive engineer of the lift irrigation department, Satyapada Dash, after allegations of acquisition and possession of disproportionate assets. Movable and immovable assets worth more than Rs 2 crore were found.
