Bhubaneswar: Delimitation of wards and reservation of seats for 96 urban local bodies of the state will be finalised by January 31, 2013. People with grievances have been asked to appeal before that date. According to the delimitation, 50 per cent seats will be reserved for women against the existing 33 per cent. Rourkela: An engineer lost his life after falling from a height of 80 metres near blast furnace No. 5 of Rourkela Steel Plant. The furnace is under construction as part of the modernisation project. A. K. Biswas, a quality maintenance engineer of Tata Projects Limited, fell down while he was climbing for inspection. Bhubaneswar: Parents and guardians of students of DAV School, Unit -VIII, on Thursday protested against its decision to hike admission and tuition fees from the current academic session. The protesters said the hike could not be forced on them as the matter was pending in court. The hike ranges between Rs 900 and Rs 1,000. Bhubaneswar: Urdu poet Balraj Komal will be awarded the Gangadhar National Award.The decision was announced by the Sambalpur University on Thursday. The award was instituted by the varsity in 1989 in memory of renowned poet Gangadhar Meher. Puri: The district administration on Wednesday installed closed-circuit television cameras on the beach. This has been done to check incidents of crime and drowning. The cameras were meant to keep vigil on goons, eve-teasing and theft, a senior police official said. Around Rs 7 lakh has been spent on the project. Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Human Rights Commission on Thursday awarded a relief of Rs 50,000 to Pramila Padhy, the woman constable who had been attacked and molested by a mob on September 6 during a Congress rally. The commission ordered the principal secretary of the home department to pay the amount to the victim within four weeks.
