Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik wrote to the Centre to expedite consideration of recommendations by the committee of linguistic experts for declaring Odia as a classical language . The proposal has not yet been placed before the Union cabinet. More than 40 million citizens of the state are looking forward for the approval of the proposal, said Naveen.

Detained

Bhubaneswar: City police on Thursday detained one person in connection with the dacoity from Odisha Gramya Bank, Darpanarayanpur branch in Nayagarh district, 84 kilometres away from here on December 31. our masked goons had allegedly open fired and decamped with 688 packets of gold having a market value worth Rs 4 crore and Rs 12,800 in cash. The person was detained in connection with cash loot of Rs 17 lakh from an accountant of a city based private hospital in Damana on February 3.

Protest

Bhubaneswar: Hundreds of depositors on Thursday staged a protest in front of the economic offences wing of state crime branch demanding arrest of officials of a money deposit and collection company, which have duped them. he protesters alleged that Icore E Services Ltd, a Calcutta based company, had duped them crores of rupees promising them 12 per cent return on their deposit.

OJM leader injured

Balangir: Former legislator and secretary general of the Odisha Jana Morcha (OJM) Yagneswar Babu was injured in a road accident at Sin Khaman Chowk, about 15km from here, today. Babu was admitted at district headquarters hospital here and later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.he accident occurred when Babu was travelling in his car on the Balangir-Titilagarh road in NH-26, when it rammed into a roadside tree near the Sin Khaman Chowk. Babu was driving the car and alone in the vehicle hen the accident took place.

Bhubaneswar: The doubling of rail track work between Delang and Puri would be in place before Nabakalebar as communicated by construction engineers of the East Coast Railway.he progress of this high-priority project was reviewed by ajiv Vishnoi, general manager of the East Coast Railway with projects officials. Vishnoi has advised the concerned heads of the departments of the railway to put infrastructure development on fast track and complete the project well before time.

Bikes seized

Berhampur: Police today seized six bikes and arrested two youths in connection with lifting of the two-wheelers. “We have arrested Pratap Pradhan, 22, of Baikuntha Nagar 2nd lane and Chandra Sekhar Padhi, 21, of Govind Bihar 7th lane. hey masterminded the theft of these six two-wheelers. The seizure of a stolen Bajaj Platina by the police at MKCG hospital and subsequent arrest of the two youths led to the seizure of other five two-wheelers,” said inspector in charge of BNPur police station.

Run over

Balasore: One person was killed after being run over by a goods train near Balasore station. The deceased has been identified as Sadanada Barik, 36, of Khantapara. His body has been sent for post-mortem.
