Management school turns down proposal

Bhubaneswar: The Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar, has turned down the suggestion of the state’s planning and co-ordination department to set up a branch of its institute in Sambalpur saying it could not set up a new branch unless it was provided the status of a university. he planning and co-ordination department of the state government had allocated the institute a grant of Rs 10 crore for the proposed institute in Sambalpur. It was supposed to be a general management unit offering a human resource development programme and other specialisations with an intake capacity of 120 students. n the letter from the planning and coordination department, officer on special duty R.V. Singh had stated that the proposed institute in Sambalpur would have 33 per cent seats reserved for students from Odisha and 20 per cent seats for the SC and ST students.

BHUBANESWAR: Booking facilities for Eden City Mahestala, a housing project in Calcutta, will also be available in Bhubaneswar. This was announced by the vice-president (marketing), Eden City Group, Biswadeep Gupta, here on Thursday. BHUBANESWAR: Orissa High Court has directed the state government to inquire into alleged sexual harassment of staff, assault on inmates and financial irregularities at Manoj Manjari Sishu Bhawan, an orphanage in Keonjhar. The high court order came after a preliminary hearing on a PIL filed by social activist Sarat Kumar Mohanty.

E-payment

BHUBANESWAR: Odisha has become the first state in the country to start an e-payment facility for government employees. Salaries and pensions would be credited to the bank accounts without the use of cheques and other procedures involved so far. The system of disbursement of payments directly to the account of beneficiary accounts through an electronic payment portal of Reserve Bank of India, was started with credit of this month’s salary to employees in the secretariat.

Buddhist train

BHUBANESWAR: The proposed extension of the inter-state special Buddhist train Mahaparinirvan Express to Odisha has been finalised by the state government and the Indian Railways. In a high-level meeting chaired by chief secretary B.K. Patnaik, it was decided that the train would run as a joint venture between the state-run Odisha Tourism Development Corporation and the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation.
