Angul gets district judge court

angul: Twenty years after its formation, the Angul district has finally got its own district judge court on July 31. Chief Justice of Orissa High Court V. Gopala Gowda inaugurated the district court here on Wednesday.peaking at the inaugural event attended by lawyers of four subdivisions in the district, Odisha chief justice laid stress on balancing sustainable development with environment. It is imperative on the part of government and industries to go for sustainable development and environmental protection in the utilisation of the vast natural resources in Odisha. Everyone, particularly the lawyers’ fraternity, should see that environment is not affected in the course of industrialisation,” he said.

Road accident

balasore: Three persons were killed on NH-5 on Wednesday after being run over by a speeding truck near Simulia College Square diversion. The deceased have been identified as Subhakanta Behera, Abhay Behera and Hitansu Behera. The trio were on a motorbike when the lorry hit them from behind .

Three drowned

BHUBANESWAR: Three teenagers drowned while taking a bath in Brahmani river at Kalinga Nagar in Rourkela on Wednesday. Six teenagers from a local slum had gone for a bath in the river when the mishap occurred. The bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem.

Cop in net

Sambalpur: Vigilance sleuths here have registered a case against Pradip Kumar Tandi, a sub-inspector at Rampur police outpost under the Brajarajnagar police station in Jharsuguda district, for demanding an illegal gratification of Rs 5,000 from Bhunesh Yadav to release a car that was seized by him. Tandi was caught red-handed by the vigilance team while accepting the bribe from the complainant in his residential quarters.

Workshop

bhubaneswar: A ten-day national workshop on tribal art and crafts and a fair, organised by the state government, was inaugurated at the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Research and Training Institute here on Wednesday. he workshop aims to bring together artists and craftsmen of the state to interact among themselves. A museum guidebook was also released on the occasion in three languages.

Child budget

BHUBANESWAR: A consultation on state financing for the children was organised here on Wednesday. The key objective of the consultation was to highlight child budgeting programmes of the state finance department and also to generate a public discourse on the rights of children.

Varsity plea

BHUBANESWAR: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik has asked the central government to set up either a physical education university or a regional centre of Laxmibai National University of Physical Education, Gwalior, here. aveen sent a letter in this regard on Wednesday.
