Retired teacher, wife killed in accident

Rourkela: A retired schoolteacher and his wife were killed as their car collided with a dumper at Beldih, on the state highway No.10 connecting Rourkela and Sambalpur, 16km from here. he car’s driver has been admitted to a local hospital in a critical condition. The deceased persons were identified as Subhankar Patel, 65, and his wife Geetanjali Patel, 60.

Plus Two

Bhubaneswar: The dates for applying for rechecking of Plus Two answer sheets had been extended till July 6, said an official of the Council of Higher Secondary Education that conducts the Plus Two examinations in the state.

Burglary

Bhubaneswar: Goons burgled the house of Urmila Mishra, 55, at Indira Housing Colony in Old Town on Saturday night and took away gold ornaments worth more than Rs 2 lakh. Mishra alleged the goons entered her house by breaking the window while she was alone at home. The thieves burgled 60 grams of gold and Rs 20,000 in cash. Local residents alleged that burglary had become the order of the day in their area. A number of burglary incidents reportedly took place in Old Town area in the recent past.

Poetry book

Bhubaneswar: Leaves and Buds, an anthology of 40 poems by Minakshi Das was released in the capital on Sunday. An Odisha Judicial Service officer, Das wrote the poems during her college days. Published by Lark Books, the anthology was released by Odia writer Satakadi Hota.

One poisoned

Berhampur: A middle-aged man was allegedly poisoned to death by his wife and brothers-in-law on Saturday night over a family dispute in Purushottampur, Ganjam. Police have detained the woman, who, in collusion with her brothers, had recently been accused of stealing silver ornaments from her husband’s house.

Fall from train

Bhubaneswar: A 50-year-old man died on Sunday morning after falling from a train stationed on platform No. 4 at the Bhubaneswar railway station. The man, whose identification has not been established yet, was rushed to Capital Hospital by the Railway Protection Force after he fell from Dibrugarh-Yashwantpur Express. He, however, died at the hospital.

Body found

Berhampur: The decomposed and unidentified bodies of two women were recovered from Kainha nullah, a minor irrigation project, in Ganjam district.
