Factory blast kills one

Cuttack: One person died and two others were critically injured in a blast inside an ice-cream factory at Nischintkohli block in Cuttack district. The incident occurred around 9am when repair work of the machines was on at the factory. The owner of the factory, Sudam Charan Sahu,35, died following the blast. It is believed that the blast occurred because of negligence on part of some employees, who were trying to fix up a leakage in the cylinder on their own.

Mutation case

Bhubaneswar: Berhampur vigilance sleuths on Thursday registered and chargesheeted against former revenue inspector of Nuapada Prafulla Kumar Sahu for accepting illegal gratification of Rs 3,000 from one Ganesh Ram Sahu for submitting a demarcation report to the Nuapada tehsildar in a mutation case. The case was under trial in the court of special judge (vigilance), Bhawanipatna. On completion of trial, Ganesh was held guilty of the charges, convicted and sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for one-and-a-half year.

SCB agitation

Cuttack: Contractual nurses working with SCB Medical College and Hospital and other government hospitals in the city on Thursday wore black badges and threatened cease work from March 8 if their demands were not fulfilled within seven days. The nurses are demanding the removal of contractual system.

Four arrested

Angul: Angul police on Thursday nabbed four criminals involved in various cases of highway robbery. The cops intercepted the accused while they were on their way to Cuttack on NH-55. The goons were wanted in Sambalpur district and handed over to Rairakhole police.

Road mishap

Bhubaneswar: Three persons were killed after a truck hit them from behind. The mishap took place near Kujanga in Jagatsinghpur district when the deceased were crossing the road.
